How PoE Chromatic Orbs work

Using Chromatic Orb on a piece of gear re-rolls its socket colors. This process is random but results are weighted depending on gear's attribute requirements (attribute requirements present on the equipment affect the end result; the chance of rolling a color corresponding to the gear's attribute is higher than the chance of rolling any other one). High required Dexterity increases the chance of getting Green Sockets, high required Strength increases the chance of getting Red Sockets, and high required Intelligence increases the chance of getting Blue Sockets. Please note that Chromatic Orb only gives "colored" sockets (Blue, Red, and Green), White Sockets can only be obtained by using the Vaal Orb. 

If you don't like your chances or random rolls are not your thing, you can stack the odds in your favor by using the Crafting Bench and an increased number of PoE Chromatic Orbs. With the Bench, you can create a specific combination of sockets, but it will typically cost you a lot of orbs. Also, please remember that using a Bench is cost-effective only if you need socket colors other than the promoted color (the one corresponding with gear's attribute requirements). Effects that can be achieved through the Crafting Bench and the corresponding Orb costs look as follows:

• At least one socket of the desired color (one Red, one Green, or one Blue) - 4 Chromatic Orbs. 
• At least two sockets of the desired color (two Red, two Green, or two Blue) - 25 Chromatic Orbs. 
• At least three sockets of the desired color (three Red, three Green, or three Blue) - 120 Chromatic Orbs. 
• At least one socket of two chosen colors (red+blue, green+red, etc.) - 15 Chromatic Orbs. 
• At least two sockets of one chosen color and at least one socket of another chosen color (2red+1blue, 2blue+1green, etc.) - 100 PoE Chromatic Orbs. 

Crafting Bench can also be used to modify sockets on the corrupted gear, but this is associated with using Vaal Orbs in an amount equal to the needed number of the Chromatic Orbs needed (which gets very expensive, very quickly).

• PoE Chromatic Orbs can drop randomly from monsters, chests, and strongboxes (the drop rate is about ~5.5%). 
• Vendoring a piece of gear with linked blue, green, and red socket will provide you with 1 Chromatic Orb. 
• Chromatic Orbs can be purchased from vendors for a price of 3 jeweller's orbs. 
• 5 Emperor's Lucks can be exchanged for 5 random Orbs, if you are lucky, you will receive 5 Chromatic Orbs from this exchange.
