WoW Classic Mounts Guide - Trainers, Costs and more

An in-depth guide on Classic WoW Mounts

WoW Classic Mounts
an in-depth Guide

Introduction

Getting a Mount in World of Warcraft Classic is the first milestone each player struggles to achieve, and it's one of their most memorable moments during their adventure in Azeroth. Training Riding Skills and buying Mount is beyond the reach of the majority of players, as it costs quite a bit of Gold. In this Guide, we would like to introduce you to the Riding/Mount System, tell you how to save up Gold for your first Mount, what classes can get cheaper Epic Mounts, and what rare Mounts can be looted from slain enemies in World of Warcraft Classic.

World of Warcraft Classic is nothing like the current games that offer "Fast Travel" features. Traveling between locations back then really was time-consuming (and still is), and it made most players simply progressed by completing quests in adjacent locations back in WoW Classic. After traveling on foot for hours for the first 40 levels, getting a Mount slowly becomes the number one priority for players, but not all of them understand how hard it is to accumulate nearly 100 Gold while Questing casually.  This guide will not only give the most basic information on where to Train Riding Skills, buy your first Mount, but we will also share the most efficient ways to earn money for your Mount in WoW Classic.

How to earn Gold for Mounts in WoW Classic?

Getting Gold for your Mounts will be one of your biggest concerns when are you are on your road to level 60. Getting 100 Gold on level 40, and 1,000 Gold on level 60 is not something you simply get while leveling up casually, and only a few players can afford it right away. There are a lot of ways to earn that much Gold, and it's not impossible. The easiest way is to simply pick two gathering professions, but except for the high income, they will give you less direct bonuses and end-game additions, so it won't work for everyone. Below we will briefly present the most basic ones and redirect you to more detailed articles we have on the subject.

5 Best ways to earn Gold for Mount in WoW Classic
  1. Gathering Professions - obviously the easiest and the most effortless way. Pick two of the following: Mining, Herbalism, Skinning; gather resources with those and dump them on the Auction House. Unless you are spending stuff on something silly along the way, you should have Gold for both the Mounts if you invested some extra time on exploring Areas and collecting materials. You can also make money on every other profession, however, crafting ones will require significant investments and expensive Recipes to give you sufficient income (something this may even exceed the price of the Mount itself). You could also go Fishing if you have decided to learn different professions, though I have found fishing to be the most boring activity you could possibly do in WoW.
    You can also check our Most profitable professions in WoW Classic Guide for more detailed information
  2. Mats Farming - there are plenty of enemies that can be farmed for valuable items including crafting materials, Cloths, reagents, and more. This is somewhat similar to Gathering Professions, as your goal is to collect materials used by other players to level up their Professions, so depending on the market, they can be quite valuable. You can check our Best Gold Farming Locations article for more info on this subject
  3. Grinding Dungeons for "Bind on equip" Rares - some BoE Rares can be very expensive, as they give lower level players a big boost during their leveling process. You will usually want to grind Dungeons slightly below your current level to make the runs go smooth and fast, as BoE Items are not guaranteed drops and you will also have to roll for them with other Group members (unless you make it clear before the run that you are basically carrying the team solely for the BoEs and see if they accept your terms)
  4. Farming for Pets - this is a very good way to earn a lot of Gold with low DPS/Gear-wise requirements from your character. The two most popular Pets that can be farmed by low-level characters are Hyacinth Macaw - dropped by all Bloodsail Pirates in Stranglethron Vale, and Whelpling Pet that can be looted from any Whelp (various Whelps can be found in Wetlands, Swamp of Sorrows and Badlands). Keep in mind that the drop chance for both the Pets is lower than 0,1% so it will require a lot of luck
  5. Sniping deals on the Auction House - if you are lucky enough, this method can bring you a lot of Gold in a very short time. Basically you are aiming at buying underpriced items and sell them for their normal prices shortly after. Occasionally you may find BoE Epics listed for way under their regular value as a result of type for example, but remember that a lot of people will be also looking for those so you need to be extremely fast

Other useful Tips:

  1. Try to save money on everything, this includes using mainly conjured Food, selling Portals and such;
  2. Don't buy all the Skills, make sure you follow up a specified path and pick only the skills that are essential for your character. It will be easier to earn money for them when you are fully geared level 60;
  3. Try to keep your Backpacks full of vendor quality items. Make sure you know what you got, as some of the Whites can be quite valuable if they are used by some of the Professions;

Neutral, Class, and Lootable Mounts

On top of the standard Racial Mounts that are available to players of each Class, there are also several other Mounts available in the game. You will rarely see them as they usually have a very low drop chance or they are a reward for time-consuming Quest or endless Faction Reputation grinding. In the table below we will present all the additional Mounts that were available in Vanilla WoW even if they still weren't introduced in the Classic version. They are, however, planned to be added in the upcoming Phases.

Neutral Mounts - these Mounts are obtained as Loot from Raid/Dungeon Bosses and can be used regardless of the player's Race and above any beforementioned restrictions. All of the Neutral/Drop Mounts in WoW Classic are "Bind on pickup" and you will have to find yourself a Group of level 60 players to obtain them
