Updated for Patch 3.23
Claws are usually associated with Intelligence/Dexterity characters like Shadow or Ranger. They're Melee weapons often used in Projectile builds such as Venom Gyre, Frost Blades, Molten Strike, Cobra Lash, or Spectral Throw as a lot of these Attacks cannot be used with Staves, Maces, or even Swords. Spell-casters are rarely resorting to Claws because Wands, Scepters, and Staves are more often than not much better in these cases. As with most weapons, your priority is to obtain a lot of offensive mods here, and the weapon's DPS is the most impactful metric used to determine how good it is. It has to have mods for increased Damage, added Damage, and Attack Speed.
Unique Claws are not very popular - Rare Claws can potentially offer much higher DPS than any item on this list. It's only when the Claw's unique property defines the build it is used in, such as is the case with Replica Last Resort, Hand of Thought and Motion, Hand of Wisdom and Action, or The Scourge. In almost any other case, be it an Elemental Damage or Poison build, we recommend wielding a Rare Claw.
This list of all the Unique Claws we've put together should prompt you to explore their potential or explain how they work and why some builds use them.
Claws | |
Last Resort - It's used only by low-level characters, it has good damage for a level-1 weapon.
Required Level: 1 Grants 3 Life per Enemy Hit |
Replica Last Resort - This Claw fits an Accuracy-stacking Juggernaut archetype as it grants a lot of Accuracy, and is better than the original as long as you're always on Low Life.
Required Level: 1 Grants 3 Life per Enemy Hit |
Wildslash - Not used in any build that we know of. The DPS and bonuses to Movement Skill's Damage are low.
Required Level: 12 Grants 7 Life per Enemy Hit |
Al Dhih - Skills that use Warcries are usually not eager to wield Claws, and the fixed Cooldown present here is not helping at all. Builds that value stats like Warcry Buff Effect would prefer a weapon with a high DPS anyway.
Required Level: 26 Grants 19 Life per Enemy Hit |
Mortem Morsu - It's a decent leveling weapon with good stats for most of the builds.
Required Level: 34 Grants 20 Life per Enemy Hit |
Cybil's Paw - It's a weapon for Spell Casters rather than Attack builds due to its low DPS, and it can be used as such on a severely underdeveloped low-level build with high Block Chance.
Required Level: 37 Grants 25 Life per Enemy Hit |
Advancing Fortress - Fortify Support Gem is usually easy to obtain and can be used instead of this unimpressive Claw.
Required Level: 46 Grants 44 Life per Enemy Hit |
Replica Advancing Fortress - The weapon's role is in almost any case to improve your Damage, not defences. This one has low damage at the cost of Block Chance and improved Evasion, ES, or Armour from a Shield. Shield Throw or Shield Crush builds prefer different weapons too.
Required Level: 46 Grants 44 Life per Enemy Hit |
Ornament of the East - It can be used for leveling on account of its good DPS at level 46, but there's not much here besides that. The "Hits can't be Evaded" Prefix can be crafted on a Rare weapon.
Required Level: 46 Grants 44 Life per Enemy Hit |
The Wasp Nest - It's one of the best weapons for any budget Poison Attack Build, such as this Viper Strike Transcendence Pathfinder. It has good base damage that grows significantly when targeting an enemy with 5 Poisons, but it lacks any DoT and DoT Multipliers.
Required Level: 60 Grants 40 Life per Enemy Hit |
Bloodseeker - The instant Leech is a powerful boon, but the Leech mastery for only 10% of Life Leech to be instant is usually enough for most. Instant Leech is a major defensive layer that completely negates DoTs for as long as your Leech. We have used it in a Bloodseeker Dual Strike Gladiator
Required Level: 62 1.6% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Life |
Law of the Wilds - The low damage is partially offset by Spectral Wolves - each Wolf lasts 30 seconds, adds 8 to 16 Physical Damage to your Attacks, and you can have up to 10 of them. Even with a very high Attack Speed and Crit Chance, it's not a good weapon - the DPS is still low.
Required Level: 62 1.6% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Life |
Allure - Phasing is a buff that's quite easy to gain and sacrificing a weapon slot to get it after you use a Vaal Skill is not the best idea. It's not a good Claw.
Required Level: 66 2% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Life |
Replica Allure - This weapon grants Life on Taunt, causes the Tanuted enemy to take increased Damage, and grants Onslaught when you kill such an opponent. It has low DPS and the utility does not justify its use. The easiest way to Taunt enemies is to use a Basalt flask or a Warcry.
Required Level: 66 2% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Life |
Essentia Sanguis - The ES overleech is a unique trait that can be found only on Trickster's Soul Drinker. It's a steady source of rapid ES Recovery. Ghost Reaver forces you to rely on this Leech instead of ES Recharge, and improves it. The downside is the weapon's relatively low, and mostly Lightning Damage, so it's good only in some kind of ES Elemental non-proxy Attack Hit build which is a niche archetype. It requires Chaos Inoculation or a non-Leech source of Life Recovery.
Required Level: 66 2% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Life |
Hand of Thought and Motion - It's used in Dex-stacking Attack builds to gain tons of added Lightning Damage. It's the most popular among Venom Gyre Deadeyes because it's a good Attack Skill that can be used with Claws. It can reach extremely high DPS with Point Blank and Deadeye's nodes.
Required Level: 68 Grants 46 Life per Enemy Hit |
Hand of Wisdom and Action - With enough Intelligence, it grants unmatched amounts of Lightning Damage. You can then use it in almost any Attack Build - we have done so in this HoWA Molten Strike CI Juggernaut.
Required Level: 68 Grants 46 Life per Enemy Hit |
Touch of Anguish - A mediocre weapon that can be used in Cold Damage Projectile Attack builds like Frost Blades Raider. Even a cheap Rare Claw offers better damage making it unpopular. It's also harder to Freeze which is important with Herald of Ice to Shatter enemies. Frenzy Charges on Kill is gained from Blood Rage Skill that most such builds use anyway.
Required Level: 68 Grants 46 Life per Enemy Hit |
Rive - It's supposed to be used in an Attribute-stacking Bleed build. The thing is, these builds are wildly unpopular as of 3.23. Bleed damage is hard to scale up as high as you can do in other, Hit-based or Poison builds. It's still possible to reach decent damage while dual-wielding these Claws and using an attack such as Dual Strike, Blade Trap of Laceration, or Puncture.
Required Level: 70 2% of Physical Attack Damage Leeched as Life |
The Scourge - This one is used exclusively in Death Wish builds. It's where your character deals Ignite Damage that is based on Minions' Maximum Life. It's a visible damage boost akin to the Spiritual Aid notable, but better. A very good Rare Wand or Sceptre will outclass it eventually.
