1. Introduction
Gunner is a very aggressive Ranged Class (think Fighter with firearms) that is very fun to play, extremely dynamic and engaging, but also hard to master. Despite its "Ranged" designation, the Class focuses on point-blank range combat and relies on dodges as well as high mobility to avoid incoming damage. Gunner's damage output is very respectable and, thanks to the Chain Trigger Skill, it is one of the most bursty Phantasy Star Online 2 Classes, especially in a well-designed group.
To boost our Gunner's DPS even further, and give him some much-needed survivability, we have chosen the Hunter as our Sub Class. This Sub Class choice makes our Gunner build a great choice for all players who want to try Gunner for the first time, as it makes the class a bit more forgiving without gimping its capabilities.
Important note: This build idea adopts a lot from the JP version of the game and might be slightly reworked as we get to do more thorough testing for the PC version. Nevertheless, it will provide a very solid base for beginners who want to delve down the path of the Gunner, and help you understand the basic playstyle and principles of this Class.

2. General Information and playstyle
This is an extremely versatile Build focused on relentless offense with a much-needed bit of survivability attached. One of the most important things you have to remember while using it is: Never. Stop. Moving. Gunner is designed for dynamic gameplay; Utilize your Dive Roll to its fullest and take advantage of the fact that you can keep attacking while using it, thanks to the Dive Roll Shot. Also, always try to lock your Chain Trigger to a weak point; this might be quite difficult at times, but it is one of those things that differentiate a great Gunner from a good one.

4. Skill Trees
Our recommended setup was made for a level 75 Characters (the current cap on the English/North American server) with the Gunner main class and Hunter sub-class. As for the Gunner's side of things, the build is focused on maximizing Damage and Mobility, which supports the Class's dynamic playstyle. It is important to note, that you should allocate as few points as possible (which means 0) to "Ranged Power Up" Skills, as they provide a flat bonus that does not scale well into the late game (three points have to be allocated into Ranged Power Up 1, to start things off, however); don't fall into the flat damage bonus trap. As for our Subclass, Hunter, it is built to increase damage output and survivability. The complete Skill Trees look as follows:
5. Recommended Gear
LEFT RING | |
Forward Stylish Roll | this allows you to roll forward when using the Dive Roll. With this ring, you will be able to chase down your enemies with aggressive rolls. |
RIGHT RING | |
HP Restore | Grants you the HP Restore skill while equipped. This will increase your survivability and allow you to play even more aggressively. |
UNITS | |
++ Saiki Set |
One of the most powerful Sets in the game. It gives you +60 across all offensive stats (S-Atk, R-Atk, and T-Atk) as well as 80 Dexterity and 25 PP. As for Affixes, Soul3/Attack3/HP3orPP3/Fever should be good enough. |
|
|
MAG | |
Ranged Attack | This build relies purely on Ranged Attacks so you need to use the R-ATK Type Mag and evolve it accordingly |
