Build Overview
New World gives its players a lot of freedom when it comes to weapon builds. You can set up your character in a plethora of different ways and utilize multiple sets of weapons to be versatile. However, what if you're one of the people who just want to roll with one build that's good for everything? Well, we have some good news for you; Our Frost Fencer build, featured in this guide, is exactly what you need - a universal DPS build viable for all types of New World content.
Our recommended setup revolves around using the amazing kits of Rapier and Ice Gauntlet to our advantage. Rapier lets us dodge, weave, and generally avoid damage in melee while harassing enemies with quick attacks and debuffing them. Ice Gauntlet is less sophisticated; it allows us to simply slow and chill enemies while dealing steady damage to them. As a result, our "Frost Fencer" New World DPS build is a force to be reckoned with, no matter what you use it for.

Pros | Cons |
Very versatile - viable for all types of content | Overall DPS is not the highest (that's the price of versatility for you) |
Great Mobility | Survivability depends on the player's skill as the build relies on CC, dodges, and avoiding damage to stay healthy |
Great Crowd Control |
Attribute Allocation
STRENGTH | 5 (+0) No points added here |
DEXTERITY | 5 (+0) No points added here |
INTELLIGENCE | 150/195 (+0) This is the primary stat for the Ice Gauntlet - you should invest all of your points into it. Doing so will maximize your damage output and have a side-effect of making you better at harvesting. Also, remember to use the Empowered blue gem for the Rapier to make it scale off Intelligence! You should aim to get 5 (or even 6) Intelligence bonuses in total, which means 250/300 points. |
FOCUS | 5 (+0) No points added here |
CONSTITUTION | 5/50 (+0) While adding points into the Constitution will make you more resilient, extra health, armor, and damage reduction are not really needed if you want to focus on group PvE. If you want the do some solo content and PvP, however, add 50 points here. |
Weapons
[PRIMARY] ICE GAUNTLET |
Ice Gauntlet is a versatile Intelligence-based weapon that makes this build viable for all types of content. It offers some of the best Crowd Control skills in the game and has access to a powerful defensive Cooldown. Moreover, it can be built in a way that will make you almost never run out of resources. It can be set up in a few different ways, depending on your preference and aim. Our aim was to maximize its crowd control potential, making us as annoying to deal with in PvP as possible, and to make kiting and eliminating groups of monsters in PvE as easy as it can be. [SECONDARY] RAPIER |
For this build, we go for the Grace Skill Tree and take just one passive from Blood. As for passives, we go all-in on cooldown reduction. Because of this, our Rapier turns from a vicious bloodletter into a gentleman's weapon that allows us to dodge or avoid attacks and dance around the battlefield with increased speed while harassing enemies with quick yet powerful stabs. All in all, Rapier's Grace tree is all about controlling the encounter, applying debuffs, and dealing steady damage, thus it works great in the combination with the Ice Gauntlet. Active Skills:

Items/Stat Priority
First and foremost, you should try to get at least 250 total Intelligence points. As mentioned in the stats section, having ~50 Constitution is also very beneficial if you want the build to be as versatile as possible. So, focus on full int gear and add 50 points into Constitution if you so desire. As for Armor Weight, you should only use Light Armor to benefit from the 20% increased damage. We are obviously going to update this section when the full game is released, and we have more time to get familiar with all the Perks, Gems, and specific attributes of higher rarity equipment. Any changes to this guide will be described on top of the page in Build notes. |
